Ana Flecha
Ana Flecha has a Ph.D. from the Latin American and Latino Studies Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz working in critical dance studies and studies of Brazilian popular culture. Her research is on the Santo Daime bailado, a collective ritual dance rooted in Amazonian and Atlantic knowledge. She directs the Espaço Flecha do Mar, a cultural center in the Northeast of Brazil, where she teaches and hosts dance and music events, supporting the local arts scene and receiving visitors from around the globe. In all her work, Ana advocates for proprioceptive justice, each one’s right to bring their whole self to education and research. Ana works professionally as a dancer and dancemaker performing recently with Cid Pearlman in a collaborative project at the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum and Botanic Garden. Through her research and creative work, Ana expands definitions of dance and ways dance is consumed.
