Marjorie Sturm
Marjorie Sturm is an award-winning San Francisco–based filmmaker whose work spans narrative, documentary, and experimental forms. Sturm is part of Decriminalize Nature SF, a group that successfully advocated for the decriminalization of entheogenic plants and mushrooms in San Francisco in 2022. Her most recent feature, "Show Me What You Want to Show Me", follows a San Francisco family navigating the housing crisis while sustaining an artistic life. Her documentary "The Cult of JT LeRoy"screened internationally, earning multiple awards and critical recognition for its bold examination of truth, identity, celebrity culture, and deception. Before filmmaking, Sturm worked for many years as a case manager with unhoused and mentally ill individuals in San Franciscoʼs Tenderloin district, an experience that continues to shape her perspective. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Michigan and an M.F.A. in Cinema from San Francisco State University.
