Maurice Byrd
Maurice Byrd is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and harm reductionist with over 20 years of experience. He is a clinical supervisor who has helped develop and implement community mental health programs for people living with chronic mental health disorders, substance use, and homelessness. His work spans adolescents and adults in diverse settings, including schools, private practice, jails, prisons, drop-in centers, needle exchanges, and directly on the streets with unhoused individuals.
Maurice trains, teaches, supervises, and consults with both clinical and non-clinical staff at nonprofit agencies nationwide, primarily in the San Francisco Bay Area. A recognized voice in harm reduction therapy, he specializes in teaching its fundamentals and group facilitation. He has led a Harm Reduction Marijuana Group for young adults and taught in the MFT program at Holy Names University. Trained in MDMA-assisted therapy and Ketamine-Assisted Therapy, he provides KAT services in private practice and is a published author.
